T-Mobile is aggressively selling the HTC Desire and has set the standard that the five other remaining mobile phone networks will have to follow by launching it on a £10 per month contract, albeit with an initial outlay of £164.
As mentioned before,
Mobilephonedirect is already giving the HTC Desire for free on a contract for £30 per month with 500 minutes, 500 texts, unlimited mobile internet and £40 free accessories; the total cost of ownership over the two years is £720.
But by going direct to the Deutsch-Telekom owned operator, you can get the phone with 100 minutes, 100 texts, unlimited internet and a choice of flexible booster for £10 per month on 24 months contract. The total cost of ownership stands at £404.
Given the fact that the HTC Desire costs nearly £400 SIM Free, it means that T-Mobile is either selling the HTC Desire at cost price or could even be making a loss on the phone.
What's more, T-Mobile is bound to make the lives of Vodafone and Google more difficult as the pair are planning to introduce the Nexus One over the next few weeks.
As a reminder, the Nexus One - which will be available in Black, Silver and Brown - comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor, a 3.7-inch touchscreen capacitive display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels, 576MB RAM, Google Android OS 2.1 and much more.
