Title: iPhone5 or Samsung S4
Post by: kennyboy on June 06, 2013, 10:55:55 AM
Thanks for all the help yesterday guys.....

Follwoing on from the advice yesterday i'm looking at changing handsets for phone and App usage, not sure on whether to go for the iPhone 5 or the S4, any feedback on either or alternatives appreciated.

Looking to use the Apps abroad so good connection and quality needed.

Cheers

Note 2 - a good size screen compared to the iphone. Fits in most large pockets.  The first version of the note 2 can still be bought at reasonable prices compared to the S4.

I guess it depends on your budget.

There is always the asus fonepad.  7inch phablet that you can buy without a contract for £180ish.  Decent build quality.

I have come across these new retina display, quadcore processor, octacore graphics tablets - need to do a little digging to see if 3g compatible.  At half the price of ipad4s, they may be a hot deal.

iphone 5: robust, tried and trusted operating system. Huge number of apps downloadable from app store. Great voice quality. Feels great to hold in the hand. Plenty of accessories available and in-car integration , if thats what you want.
iOS is guaranteed to be supported on each iteration of the IPhone for at least another 3/4 years so you'll keep on getting new software features for at least 3/4 years. I think only the original iphone (1) has stopped being supported on iOS just recently, nearly 6 years after its release.
Customisable to an extent out of the box, but even more so if you jailbreak, but the latest iOS version is not jailbreakable yet and probably wont be so for a good few months, if at all.

S4: plenty of gimmicks like the face movement detection thing, which doesnt work that well.
Slow, jerky operating system, but you can root and custom ROM your own if you are that way inclined for a better user experience.
Android versions generally only get supported for around a year, after which you'll have to rely on custom ROMs to see the latest Android features on your phone without going out and buying the latest model.

You can tell which one I prefer  ;D

Newer versions of iOS will run not as well on older phones and there are features that do not get included in software updates for older iPhones (like Siri), so it is a bit unfair to say on Samsung phones don't get updated. I have a 2 year old Samsung phone and it still receives software updates. The next update for iOS will also be a big change from older versions, so not quite as "tried and tested" as once it was.
