Title: Microsoft Advises Windows XP SP 2 Users To Upgrade
Post by: mobaholic on July 12, 2010, 03:51:11 PM

Microsoft has advised users with PCs running on Windows XP Service Pack 2 to upgrade their systems before the company ends it support.

Microsoft has decided to end support for Windows XP SP2 from 13 July.

The company has advised users to upgrade their systems to Windows XP Service Pack 3, which Microsoft has said it will continue to support until April 2014, or the recently launched Windows 7 OS.

Microsoft had launched Windows XP back in 2001 and since then, the OS has become the most widely used computer operating system in world, accounting for 62 per cent of all computers accessing the internet world wide

Computers running the software after this date will no longer receive security updates or support from Microsoft.

In a statement, Windows product manager at Microsoft UK, Julie-Ann Muir, said: “Customers that are on Service Pack 2 should be making a decision around whether they go with Service Pack 3, do they look at Windows 7, or do they do nothing and choose to stay exactly where they are.”

Very Good update MH!

That is true the XP is mostly in use comparing with other Microsoft operating systems! As in mid of 2009 Microsoft decided to close XP support completely, but eventually they found that Windows Vista have lot of bugs and users have condemned it! So they decided to extend XP support up to 2012 and support to downgrade Windows Vista to XP, now as per your post its going up to 2014, that is good news.

But Second thing that I observed strongly and many times in my own experience, as I installed all the time Windows XP from SP2 CD and SP2 updated it self automatically up to SP3 when you turn on automatic updates. For me only users should be on SP2 they may did not turned on automatic update option, and did not downloaded SP3 and installed it manually, they should be few users! But mostly users are already running on SP3, anyway it is still safe announcement from Microsoft that I believe! And Windows 7 is also not bad option as it is almost bug free Vista  ;)

Regards,

Very helpful post Mh,

XP is the Windows Operating System that has more users than any other OS's like Vista, 7, NT, Server 2000. It is very much user friendly as well. The sad part of the story is that Microsoft doesn't want to extend the support for long. They might want to sell their up to date versions and gain profit.

Even though to a certain extent 7 is bug free, it is more or less similar to Vista. The User Interface has been changed and some additional tasks and features have been added to its feathers.
