Title: Useful online tools Post by: mobileman on September 17, 2010, 02:42:56 PM I thought it might be helpful to start a thread on useful online tools. If others can contribute other suggestions on the theme, please post them below. ;) Did you know that you can convert .PDF documents to Word documents for free on the web? :-\ One good way to do this is to go to http://www.pdftoword.com/ ;) It's entirely free, and each time that you want to convert a PDF to Word, OpenOffice etc, you simply go on the site, upload the document, select PDF or RTF, and put in your email address. You will then be sent the resulting document. They also have a download-able version but if you don't need to use it all the time, just bookmark the site and come back to it as and when you need it. :) If you want to get the text from the PDF in Notepad format then you can simply download the '.doc' file and then copy and paste it into Notepad. The great thing about http://www.pdftoword.com/ is that it also converts images very accurately. Here is what the company says about this on the homepage "Our PDF-to-Word converter is designed to convert and accurately re-position all of these upon conversion. Even for complex drawings and shapes with textures, patterns, and fills, we replicate the images, while maintaining editing capabilities." They also claim to have a more accurate PDF to Word conversion than even high end desktop software products that you have to pay for, so is definitely worth checking out. ;) mm. http://www.cutepdf.com/ Just download the free version, install it and then use the normal print option but select the cutepdf printer rather than your normal printer and the output will be a pdf file. I hope this helps someone ;D Title: Re: Useful online tools Post by: mobileman on September 19, 2010, 09:04:36 AM And if you need to do the reverse, i.e., convert any kind of document to PDF, use cutepdf. http://www.cutepdf.com/ Just download the free version, install it and then use the normal print option but select the cutepdf printer rather than your normal printer and the output will be a pdf file. https://imo.im Let's you have IM chats (e.g. Skype, MSN etc.) without needing to install anything http://www.papercdcase.com PDF generator for CD/DVD cases. Has a nifty tool for auto-filling in song titles. http://www.resize.it/ Picture resizer and cropper Stuff to download: http://www.freeisoburner.com Small downloadable ISO image burner http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html Best lightweight multi-format Media player that has ever existed. Also I wanted to add that the Google calculator (that has already been mentioned above) also does very useful currency conversions. You can write free text, or the international 3 digit currency code if you know it e.g. 1 US dollar in pounds 1 usd in indian rupees 33 euro in GBP 100 GBP in INR 12 EUR in GBP etc. Title: Re: Useful online tools Post by: ganjbakhash on September 27, 2010, 04:36:36 PM Here's an odd collection of some random tools I have made use of in the last few years: https://imo.im Let's you have IM chats (e.g. Skype, MSN etc.) without needing to install anything http://www.papercdcase.com PDF generator for CD/DVD cases.
