I recently came across this service which seems to offer free international calls for up to 6 minutes in length to over 100 different destinations worldwide:
http://www.freecallbutton.com/calling_to.htmThere are a number of different access numbers for the service in many different cities around the world, too.
I have tried testing it by calling a standard UK geographical landline access number. The destination list does include some major cities in Pakistan and India though, I must confess I have not tried it to reach such destinations. Perhaps some forum members who call these countries on a regular basis could try it out and post their findings.
To make a call:
1) You call a selected local access number from here:
www.freecallbutton.com/free_global_calling_codes.htmeg. Nottingam, UK.
0115 871 83472) You will hear a message along the lines of:
" Thank you for calling the SipBroker PSTN access service. Please dial the number you wish to connect to , followed by the hash key."
At this point, you enter the given extension number alongside the given access number, eg. in this case (Nottingham)
*011 2200 or
011 2244 and the hash key.
3) You will then get an American voice saying:
"Please enter the password followed by the pound key."
At this stage you enter the Pin Today, which is
3322 found here:
http://www.freecallpin.com/The Pin changes daily so please check before you want to call.
At this point the American lady says: " Thank you!" and you hear a normal dial tone. You then enter 00+ country code +subscriber number.
It may not be great, but it's a free offering for short international calls from UK mobile / landline packages. It seems that there may be a restriction for calls made between 12:00am and 08:00am New York time, but I am unsure of this.
