Title: Tesco mobile PAYG to have only one tariff
Post by: mobaholic on July 09, 2008, 09:32:39 AM

According to the Tesco mobile website (http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/shop/?page=tariffinfo) Tesco is going to simplify its offering into just one PAYG tariff, with a simple flat rate scheme of charges.

The flat rate anytime charge will be 20p / min; and texts 10p each.
However, they give half price calls and texts to your 5 favourite numbers ( i.e. these are 10p / min. and 5p respectively ).

It also features a bonus of either 500 texts OR 150 minutes any month in which you top up by £15.

Those on existing Tesco tariffs ( such as 'Value', 'Extra' etc. ) will be allowed to keep their present plan, but not change back to one of these later.

Thinking about this offer, it may make some sense IF you can make good use of your 5 favourite numbers, and make most of your calls and texts to them, BUT if not, it appears to offer less value than the '3' Flat 12 tariff.

EDIT:  This needs to be re-appraised after the change in terms announced on the '3' Flat 12 tariff.  See: here (http://www.foneforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,144.new.html#new).        ;)

There is now more news of this topic on Mobile Today (http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/Tesco_Mobile_overhauls_pay_pay_you_go_tariffs.html).

Most of the information I posted yesterday, but a few more details have come out.        ;)

Tesco Mobile has simplified its call plans by ditching its four existing pay-as-you go tariffs and replaced them with one new rate.

Existing customers will still be able to stick with their old tariff if they prefer, but they have the option to change to the new price plan, which costs 20p per minute for calls and 10p per minute for texts.

As part of the offer, users can choose five friends who they can phone and text at a half price rate of 10p and 5p per minute respectively.

As an additional bonus, customers topping up by £15 or more in any month will receive 150 free minutes or 500 free texts in addition to their £15 top-up.

The free texts and call-time can be used to contact any UK mobile or standard fixed landline number, regardless of network or time of day.  Customers will also earn 4 Tesco Clubcard points for every £1 they top up.

David Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer at Tesco Mobile, said: ‘Right now, everyone wants to make their money go further, so we’ve been looking for ways to help our customers save.’
