Post by: NewStarter on October 05, 2010, 05:13:05 PM
Skype has launched an official application for Android-based smartphones.

The Luxembourg-based VoIP company has released an app for download from the Android Marketplace, allowing users to make cheap or free Skype-to-Skype calls and send instant messages to friends on their mobile phones using the Skype app, tech blog Android OS.in reports.

According to tech news site Tech Crunch, following the release of a similar app for Apple’s iOS and Nokia’s Symbian operating systems
, Skype has made an app available for use on Google’s Android OS.

The app is compatible with Android 2.1 or newer and works well with WiFi, 3G, EDGE and GPRS. It is reported to work on HTC and Motorola devices with Android OS 2.1 and above.
