It just so happens that a friend of mine suggested I take a look at Primus Telecom ( run by Planet Talk ) recently.
It is true that it is cheap line rental if you follow the link BJ posted, and the service also allows indirect access providers to be called, but they exclude 0845 and 0870 numbers from free calls, and anyone considering moving their landline to them should carefully consider all the hostile reviews available on the internet.        ;)

Examples:-

Absolutely rubbish company.  Customer service is appalling, the bills are hard to follow and a rip off.  Was sent a bill for £65 more than I owed, they refuse to acknowledge letters or emails and instead cut your phone off for £20.  Now my bill was paid 2 days after it was due, I pay by standing order, and they cut my phone off.  Cant phone them to sort it.  They also ask for payments every 3 weeks, and now I cannot get onto the website to view latest bill.  Am now switching back to BT. I made the mistake to recommend Primus to two of my friends.
Both had big problems, as the switching was not smooth at all. Both left primus.
........ Their customer support is as good as non-existing. That is just plain unacceptable.

Think twice before switching

These are just a few of the quotes that can be found on most review sites.  See here (http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews145423.html) and here (http://www.my3cents.com/search.cgi?criteria=Primus+Telecommunications+Group) for instance.        ;)

Needless to say, I have resisted the urge to subscribe !        ;D

Some of the complaints you refer to and the site http://www.my3cents.com/search.cgi?criteria=Primus+Telecommunications+Group dont appertain to Primus UK. ;)

I am very sorry if that is the case BJ, but your "some" is a little non specific.  Which ones do you think should be ignored, and more importantly, can you discount any of those which do apply to Primus UK ?        :-\

I would suggest the last 3 examples you use taken from my3cents should be ignored  ,as one poster lives in Northern Virginia, one lives in California, and the other mentions a Cellphone. It looks like all the posts on that site probaly relate to USA.

Their Head Office is in Northern Virginia and they operate all other the world.

They have a bit of a chequered history in the states.

Many thanks for your reply BJ.        :)

Fair comment !        :)

But a company which is that unreliable in one country must at least be suspect in its other operations.       ;)
