Title: Foreign & roaming SIM's
Post by: mobaholic on July 14, 2008, 02:03:04 PM

Today's BBC channel 2's 'Working Lunch' gave a short piece about the high cost of texting in Europe.

Their website gives the following succinct summary:-

Quote
Rachel looks at the costs of send a text message from abroad and how the EU is trying to lower charges.

The program said far more than this, and featured a quick look at 2 SIM's for travel:

http://www.0044.co.uk/ (http://www.0044.co.uk/)  and  http://www.uk2abroad.com (http://www.uk2abroad.com)

I have used neither of these myself, but mention them in case any member can report on their service.

0044 is reselling ekit, as well as a number of single country SIMs

uk2abroad has a call forwarding and callback system, formerly vastly overpriced but still not really competitive, and also resells 0044 SIMs

Has anyone used any cheap Roaming SIM services lately that the Fourom could benefit from. Please let us know as I will be travelling soon and would like to know what alternatives there are other than 0044.

It depends. Where exactly are you travelling? Which countries are you visiting?

Most cards have free incoming in Italy. You could buy an ekit card, that has an isle of Mann number (07924, 07624), but generally since Italy is in the eurotariff zone I would advice you use your normal Uk mobile number. Only if you expect a huge ammoune of incoming calls you could probably use an international card like ekit

I believe 07624 is no longer a current number range for roaming sims. Both of mine were switched off last year.

Thanks both. I also have heard of the Traveltalk SIM. Will try that as well.
