Title: O2 cuts international call charges to mobiles
Post by: mobileman on November 09, 2011, 03:50:01 PM

O2 has announced it is to significantly reduce the cost of international calls to mobiles and landline numbers, to as little as 1p per minute, and texts to just 10p.

On 22 November, O2 will cut international calling costs for existing Pay & Go customers, and offer the same calling card rates to new customers, through the launch of O2 International Sim.  In some cases, calls will be cut from £1.50 to 1p per minute.

O2 International SIM will be the latest addition to O2’s Pay & Go range and will offer great value to call mobiles.  The international SIM will allow customers to call mobile and landline numbers in India and China for 1p per minute, Pakistan for 4p per minute and the USA for 2p per minute.

International SIM is available to all Pay & Go customers free of charge.  These customers will also benefit from significant value on calls and texts made in the UK with the addition of the O2 Unlimited tariff to the SIM.  This will give customers unlimited O2-to-O2 text messages with a £10 top-up and unlimited O2-to-O2 calls with every £15 top-up to 22 million O2 customers.

O2 said that in order to bring the same great value to O2’s loyal Pay & Go customers, the new international rates will also be automatically applied to O2’s existing O2 Unlimited Pay & Go tariff.

O2’s consumer and marketing director Sally Cowdry said: ‘Collectively, our customers spend longer talking on their phone internationally than those on any other network, and we recognise that more and more time is being spent calling mobiles abroad.  We’re really pleased to be offering both existing and new Pay & Go O2 Unlimited customers calling card rates for making international calls, at as little as 1p per minute.

‘At O2, we set out to deliver great experiences for our customers and fantastic value for money, whether that be through Priority Moments – which offers our customers exclusives, special deals and experiences – or by offering some of the lowest rates in the UK, to call friends and family across the world.’

I believe this is the tariff due to replace O2's "Your Country" offer which is being withdrawn, as I've mentioned elsewhere.

I have cross checked the same with O2 Help desk. The guy said, 1p per minute to India (land lines as well as mobiles) using O2 calling cards. They are available from £5. Great....
