Title: Extra charges to Pakistan stopped
Post by: zaheer_khan on October 26, 2012, 12:11:46 AM
Hi everyone

Good news for all those who make calls to Pakistan. Today one of the Courts in Pakistan ordered not to collect extra revenue/charges on incoming calls until 5/11/12 and asked the Foreign Ministry to answer to the Court by then. The Foreign Ministry admitted the hike in charges were due to increase the revenue of the Government. Hopefully these charges would stop permanently now.

Zaheer

LHC declares PTA chairman appointment illegal, orders removal

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday declared the appointment of chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority illegal and ordered his removal.
Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf approved the appointment on July 27, 2012.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah issued this order in response to a petition filed by Khawaja Saad Saleem.
The petitioner said PTA Chairman Farooq Ahmed Awan was appointed against the rules.
He added that after Dr Muhammad Yaseen retired as PTA chairman in July, 2012, the vacancy was not advertised nor any application was entertained.
The petitioner argued that Awan’s appointment was against the objects, scheme and provisions of the Telecommunication Act. He also said it is in violation of Articles 4, 8, 9, 18 and 25 of the constitution.
He had prayed the court to strike down the appointment of Awan as member and chairman of PTA for being in violation of the PTA Act and the Constitution

hope the phone calls tax will come down now.

Very good Mr Khan. But what does this actually mean for us making calls to Pakistan? Will they be cheaper, and will less units be taken out of Top Up To call?

Can someone confirm the charges are taken off  ???

As, One of my friend used to use calling card and used to call 100+ for one pound card which is not possible now and still waiting for the rates to get down. Either it's the rates, not reduced or the card companies still charging. the prior is more probable!

I haven't seen a single reduction in rates on any product or carrier myself.

Though the courts in Pakistan restricted the Govt from taking such payments but it looks like they still charging the same amount. I've recently read some where where the local media was criticising the Govt's action even after the courts said there is no justification for these charges.

I'm afraid it is Mr 100% for us.
