Title: Voice vs data cables in home
Post by: albertjames on July 27, 2014, 10:54:27 PM
Hello, the builder of my house (who's long gone now) installed both "voice" and "data" cables in most of the jacks, except the smaller bedrooms. The ports are labeled and colored differently, but work interchangeably as voice or data lines. I suspect the builder labeled them differently so people would know where to plug in what, even if it doesn't matter.

I bring this up because I want to the PS3 in my son's bedroom and have it run wired. Since there is not a "data" port there, I noticed that both the voice and data, which are cat5e+, seem the same, and indeed work the same. If I set this up, should I expect any unexpected problems to arise as a result?
