It has really been funny watchìng A1ia5 asking about this on the 'no longer nifty forum', and even a moderator like webKami giving him wrong answers! The '3' store on their website have been selling a SIM for £9.99, with £10 credit included, for at least the last year, and you can also get a free SIM, for a £10 top up, in a '3' store also. The only thing that is new in this offer, is that the current one does not require any compulsory top up. (Ideal if you have a number to port in, for 3's free £10 credit!) The request free three sims via 83030 short code actually worked quite well and was a good way to use up bits of credit on PAYG SIMs as it only cost 1 standard SMS to send and as far as i can tell it is not a subscription service - another good reason to send from PAYG, just in case you start getting stung with reverse billed SMSs !
