Title: ISP Plusnet launches £5-99 Broadband Package Post by: mobaholic on February 20, 2009, 09:42:37 PM Broadband Provider Plusnet has released a new entry level up-to-8mbps broadband offer that costs only £5.99 per month and comes with a rather low 10GB monthly data transfer limit plus a free wireless router. According to the ISP, the offer is geared at helping customers who have fallen on hard times to continue getting access to broadband internet although it entails reducing consumption significantly compared to an unlimited package. You will have to be living in one of Plusnet's low cost areas otherwise you will be paying £11.99 per month after the first three introductory months. This is down to the way BT Wholesale, which provides backend support to Plusnet, segments the UK broadband market. The move mimics a similar one by Carphone Warehouse (http://network.itproportal.com/portal/news/article/2009/1/19/carphone-warehouse-gives-free-broadband-and-phone-12-months/) which earlier this year offered free broadband and line calls for new customers registering before the end of March 2009, a saving of nearly £78. It also launched a Credit Crunch (http://network.itproportal.com/portal/news/article/2009/1/28/talktalk-offers-credit-crunch-emergency-broadband-phone-package/) Emergency Broadband and Phone package to help customers who have been the hardest hit by the recession. The Chief Executive Officer of Plusnet, Anthony Vollmer, stated that: "People are determined to keep their access to the internet via broadband come what may. The web is probably the best job research facility ever invented and, combined with its ability to track down shopping bargains, is the ultimate weapon for families against the current downturn." Users will still have to pay BT's Line rental which currently stands at £31.50 a quarter. Existing customers will be able to switch to the cheaper offer simply by calling Plusnet. The company has also launched an Unlimited Broadband package aimed at customers looking for no caps or fair usage limits.
