Title: Virgin Media price rises from 1st May
Post by: mobaholic on March 28, 2009, 10:35:13 AM

The official announcement may be viewed here (http://www.ispreview.co.uk/story/2009/03/27/virgin-media-confirms-broadband-and-tv-price-increases.html).

There is lively comment which can be seen here (http://groups.google.com/group/uk.telecom/browse_thread/thread/bc2e43cee47855ad?hl=en-GB).

Virgin have announced some price increases taking effect from 1st May:

XL TV up by 1 pound
M broadband up by 2 pounds
Individual chargeable call features (Call Waiting etc) up by 25p

Calls to mobiles up 1p/min
Calls to 0844 up 2p/min
Calls to premium rate up 5p/min
Paper bills charge 1.25/month
Itemised billing now free (was 1.00/month)

The most sneaky of these are the 0844 and premium rate increases. Especially since some 0844 numbers are 0.5p/min - these now rise to 2.5p/min.  And presumably this affects premium rate 'call 0911 to vote...' numbers, where instead of costing 10p flat it'll cost 15p.  It's quite annoying that simple to remember 1/2/3/4/5 p/min numbers are now not the same on BT or Virgin.
But then TalkTalk have been playing this game too.

Yet another reason to steer clear of Virgin for telephony...
