Title: Virgin Mobile reports contract customer surge
Post by: mobaholic on May 05, 2009, 02:07:34 PM

Monthly ARPU up and broadband customers increase

Virgin Media has reported a 63% increase in mobile contract customers to 712,300, while churn was at a record low and ARPU continued to rise. It reported its results for the quarter ended 31 March 2009 today (5 May).

Overall revenues at Virgin Media, which is the owner of Virgin Mobile, fell to £935.7m from £947.3 million in 2008, due to a drop in business customers and customers not in cable broadband areas.

Mobile monthly ARPU was up at £10.64, compared with £10.06 in Q1 2008.  However, the company’s prepay customers were down to 326,830, from 352,870 one year earlier.

ARPU for on-net, where customer services are provided by Virgin's cable network, rose to £42.29 from £41.95 in the first quarter of last year, boosted by price increases and the rise in the take-up of faster and more expensive broadband services.  On-net customer additions were 7,100 compared with 4,900 last year.
