Title: LG buoyed by sales of Viewty and Cookie
Post by: mobaholic on May 18, 2009, 02:03:30 PM

LG gathers momentum after success through touch-screen devices

The LG Cookie has been Carphone Warehouse’s second best selling device ever, with 350,000 sold across the retailer's territories in four months.

The budget touch-screen phone was initially exclusive to Carphone in the run-up to Christmas 2008, being chosen as a mass market touch-screen device on prepay and low-end contracts.

It was second only to the Motorola pink V3 Razr as Carphone’s best ever selling device, and had a huge impact on LG’s share of sales at Carphone.

Carphone’s chief commercial officer, Graham Stapleton, said: ‘By developing a close partnership with LG we identified the Cookie in June last year and it has been a tremendous success.’

It comes as LG announced that another of its touch-screens, the LG Viewty, has reached seven million worldwide sales since its launch in November 2007.  The phone reached 310,000 sales in the first five weeks of its release in Europe.

LG announced the follow up to the Viewty, the Viewty Smart, set for release into shops this month.  The touch-screen handset incorporates an eight-megapixel camera and a 3D user interface.

It is also set to unveil a part-transparent touch-screen device, the LG Crystal, understood to be exclusive at Carphone.
