I am very pleased to report that we have made good progress with dealing with spammers registering here to abuse the open nature of a forum.

Although we have suffered a plague of spam posts here over the past fortnight, none have been made by newly registered members.    Wink

I have personally tested the registration system, and I was appropriately refused an account when I mimicked the actions of a spammer.    Shocked

I have also seen guests looking in here, and when I have tracked them online, the software shows me that they attempted to register here, but were similarly refused an account.
So I am confident that the software that has been installed is guarding us well currently.    Cheesy

Nobody can be confident that things might not change again one day, but for the time being, I believe that Moderators and Admin can relax a little, and enjoy a period of calm.    Smiley

Admin.

I think it is time to update the information on this thread.

Our webmaster did some work on our forum last week, which has helped us greatly with the spam plague we were suffering.
This is dealt with on another thread here, which I shall also be updating soon.
However he also made some helpful suggestions about how to deal with the email delivery problem.    Smiley

Mikael was able to make some changes on a DNS look-up server on Friday, and having made some tests last evening, I can report that Gmail notification emails are now arriving in Gmail again.   Cheesy

I sent 4 test PMs to accounts with registered Gmail accounts, and all emails arrived in them within one minute.
However it is only fair to say that only 2 were delivered to the Inbox, whereas the other 2 were placed in the Spam folder.    Wink

This means that members can continue, or switch back, to using Gmail - if they wish - although it will be wise to check your Spam folders regularly if you do.    Wink

If members have switched their registered email account to another provider, and they are happy to stay there, there is nothing that they need do.
However for those who prefer to have Gmail as their main account, they can now switch back to it if they chose.    Wink

If any fresh problems arise please let me know via PM.    Wink

Thank you.

Thanks but Iíve given up on them. If they canít support their users then I canít be bothered with them.

Hi Dave,

Keep trying they eventually will give you a late reply.
I don't think there is any other way of contacting them, besides email.

Regards,
niceguy

Congratulations Delaro!
You have been a real asset for the forum in past as I could remember.
And now you would be more worthy for the forum.

Regards

I think you have had a bit of a 'rough ride' with the spam problems you have been dealing with so valiantly.
I am sorry that I couldn't get here earlier on.
By my count, you and davegr have dealt with 33 spam posts made today!   Shocked

On the positive side, these were made by members who registered here before our software changes were made.
It would be more worrying if fresh members had registered here and posted the spam.    Wink

Not that 33 in one day isn't trying enough, but at least we can try to deal with those here already, as they show their hand.
Let's hope the torrent on spam posts soon dwindle to more manageable proportions.

Anyway, congratulations for the great contribution that you are already making to the forum delaro.    Smiley
