Lebara Mobile, the MVNO offering cheap international calls, has signed a distribution agreement with Tesco.

The supermarket giant will start selling Lebara’s Sim cards and airtime in 1,900 of its shops nationwide.

Initially the Sim cards and top up will be available at 90 from July.

‘Signing up such a well-known retailer is testament not only to the success we are having in bringing retail partners onboard but also to the popularity of our offering and the value that retailers can get from selling our products and services,’ said Robert Gaskin, UK country manager for Lebara Mobile.

‘Customers are now able to take advantage of our low-cost national and international calls with Lebara Mobile throughout the UK with the introduction of Tesco as a partner and its extensive store network.’

Details of Lebara services and call rates may be viewed here.

Moves such as the Tesco tie up are part of Lebara's aggressive expansion strategy, which have seen its customer base grow by 200% month-on-month since it was launched in October 2007.  See:-   here.

Virtual operator Lebara Mobile is now selling its e-top-up Sim cards at 68,000 terminals nationwide.

The MVNO provides low-cost calls to UK ethnic residents who can top-up their SIM cards at terminals in shops across the country.

Retailers including the Post Office, Martin McColl, Budgens, Welcome Break and Phones 4u have had their systems configured to sell Lebara airtime and are benefiting from extra sales and greater footfall.

Robert Gaskin, UK country manager for Lebara Mobile said: ‘This is a fantastic result for Lebara Mobile.

‘Part of our overall strategy from the outset has been to have strong eVoucher availability to support our Sim card distribution.

‘This means our growing customer base can gain even greater access and ease of use in topping up their Lebara Mobile Sim cards.’

Lebara Mobile Pay-As-You-Go Sim cards, top-ups and handset bundles give customers the ability to make low-cost national and international calls directly from all standard UK GSM mobile phones.
