T-Mobile has confirmed it is to introduce new 18-month and two-year pay monthly mobile tariffs on 1 February.

The contract period missing from that sentence is ’12-month’ – these are expected to be ditched by the cellco.

Instead, the longer-length tie-ins will come with a free “booster” – a choice of unlimited texts, unlimited UK fixed-line calls, up to 1GB of internet access a month, or any of a variety of inter national call packages.

Punters can change boosters on a monthly basis and buy extra ones for a fiver a go.

The contracts will range from 100 minutes and 100 texts for £15 per month to 1200 minutes and 500 texts for £35 a month.  An 18-month package will be £5 more expensive that the same-airtime two-year subscription.  T-Mobile executive John Fannon told trade paper Mobile News: “The new tariffs are like a Chinese menu – it’s very easy to choose what you want.”  A month later, on 1 March, T-Mobile will roll out new Sim-only tariffs, again with a choice of one booster, or more if you’re willing to pay a fiver a throw.

One-year Sim-only deals run from 600 minutes and 500 texts for £15 a month, to 1200 minutes and 500 texts for £25 per month.  Month-by-month packages cost between £10 and £25 for, respectively, 100 minutes and 100 texts or 900 minutes and 500 texts.

T-Mobile confirms tariff revamp

Simplified price plans as the operator drops Combi and Flext tariffs

T-Mobile has announced a ‘simplified portfolio’ of pay monthly price plans, confirming the demise of its well-known Combi and Flext tariffs.

The move was tipped by Mobile at the start of January, when a presentation was sent by the operator claiming the new price plans will allow ‘great customer offers’, ‘ultra flexibility’ and better value.

The changes will see 12 month contracts removed and new Sim-only plans replacing the Solo tariff.

The new tariffs will allow customers to choose from ‘flexible’ boosters of unlimited texts, landline calls, internet and roaming boosters.

T-Mobile said its new portfolio means customers can ‘personalise’ their plan based on the type of handset they want, the way they use their phone and how much they want to spend each month.

The operator said the ‘revamp’ addresses ‘the insight that consumers feel the mobile market is too complicated and confusing’.

Steve Mitchell, head of pay monthly at T-Mobile, said: ‘We know from speaking to our customers that there’s a lot of confusion when it comes to selecting a new mobile phone contract.  e’re simplifying our portfolio and making our plans more personalised and flexible.

‘We’ll let our customers tell us what they value most and create a package around their choices.  And our Flexible Boosters are available to our customers regardless of the plan they choose, so they can continue to change their package to suit them any time they wish.’
