Whoosh

Virgin Media will publicly demonstrate its upcoming 200Mb/s broadband service this weekend.

VM's demo follows hot on the heels of the expansion of its 200Mb/s trial into Coventry.  The test set-up is already operating in Kent and has been since the summer of 2009.

The service operates over Virgin Media's fibre optic network, and involves running fibre into the home.

VM hasn't said when it expects to roll out 200Mb/s broadband commercially.  Last month, it said it would offer subscribers 100Mb/s broadband by the end of this year.

Virgin's 200Mb/s demo will take place at the Ideal Home Show 2010 which kicks off a London's Earl's Court tomorrow.  The show runs until 5 April.

Hi ganjbakhash! You did mean Mb/s - not the M/s, didn't you??  Roll Eyes Wink

I wouldn't like to embarrass anyone here in the UK (including myself), but.. there is a cable network provider in Poland that has been offering fibre optic internet access with speed up to 120Mbps since Q3 2009. The offer is available in about 40 larger cities nationwide. The price for the top speed is 200PLN pcm, which is an equivalent to about £46 pcm. I spoke the other day to a friend of mine who works as a contractor for some of the biggest ISPs in Poland. He said the cable infrastructure was so out of date it was cheaper to build brand new network rather than repair the old ones. Plus on top of this - the country still gets loads of money from the EU.

Regrettably - none of the countries mentioned above has been listed here.

Regards.
