Hi all,

As most of you probably know, starting 1st July charges for calls to "service numbers" (08, 09, 118) are going to be split into two parts. The two parts are a service charge which is paid to the service provider and an access charge which is paid to your telecoms provider. These charges are added together to give the total charge for calling a service number. The full amount will be collected by your telecoms service provider on your bill as usual.

Over the coming months telecoms providers will be announcing their access charge, so I thought it would be a good idea to list them here. If you find details of a providers access charge, please post here and I will update this post. For now, I'll start with the only provider I currently know to have published their access charge.

Sky - 9.5p

Does that mean EE and Vodafone (One Net Express) are also going to charge extra for their unlimited 08 add ons?

Probably not, I believe there are provisions for the "access charge" to be included in inclusive minutes. It really depends on the T&C's of the add-on though I guess.

I wasn't aware of this "access charge" to be honest. I will inform the forum when I hear something from my landline and mobile service providers.

You seem surprised Dan? I don't think this will be the highest access charge we see! (I'm thinking of EE).

It's ridiculous to exclude even the 0845/0870 from inclusive allowances Angry

I'm dreading it, definitely can't afford to be calling 08xx numbers at Vodafone or equivalent Access Charge, forget the service charge on top!
This compares now to paying 0p/min inclusive in tariff/bundle, though I can see similar happening as landline deals to 0845/0870 are pulled (not in as much use as they once were). However those calling them won't as freely and be sure to use alternatives, unfortunately for some telecom services there's no easy like for like replacement as the current tariff pricing structure stands after the change over date, they may have to adapt their service round other codes/price points which will be limiting/challenging to what they can offer free or at no extra cost as options reduce, compared to how it is currently.

---------------

Update:
EE - 44p/min  Shocked Yes your right Dave, I guess at least they offer a discounted bundle, albeit a reduced/restricted one now.

Thanks BJ, I have read many of Sir Ian's posts, they are highly accurate and give much depth/background on the subject, highly recommended reading for those wishing to broaden their knowledge on the forthcoming changes and more besides.

0870 will soon have revenue share restored, that's why. As for 0845, just penny-pinching really, or perhaps their billing system doesn't allow them enough flexibility not to apply the access charge to 0845. I suspect the former though!

Yes I read that just now. It's a shame that they will implement this new charges on the 0845 numbers as well. That's going to be a big blow for services like Precaller on this forum.

As long EE doesn't start charging on my unlimited 08 add on I'll survive :-) but we'll have to wait and see.
