T-Mobile and HTC partner challenger to Apple iPhone
The first Google phone, with highly anticipated Android software could be launched in the UK with T-Mobile in time for the Christmas run-up.
T-Mobile is expected to announce the new HTC handset in a few weeks. The release date could be as soon as November.
The ‘dream’ phone, as it is being billed, will integrate new mobile software, Android - Google’s mobile browser, announced in November last year. It is expected to be big on Google’s mail, search and mapping facilities, as well as having a YouTube application – also owned by Google.
Many handset analysts have tipped Google to pose a serious threat to Apple, and even senior Nokia executives have acknowledged Google as a major potential rival.
The Android platform is a fully integrated mobile 'software stack' that consists of an operating system, middleware, a user-friendly interface and applications.
Amongst others T-Mobile collaborated with Google on the development of the Android platform through the Open Handset Alliance.
