I just heard of this service which provides cheap calling to Pakistan at a rate of only 3p per minute and India mobiles for 1p per minute.

Plus a special bonus when you activate your voucher for the first time you get an extra 100 minutes of free calling time to India and some other selected destinations. (offer valid until 28/02/2009)

You can either buy vouchers online or at shops which display the following signs:

They look like very good rates. However the pricing is not very clear. A connection charge is mentioned, but it does not say how much it is, or whether it is the same for all destinations. A 10p connection charge for example is worth nearly 2p per minute on the average call. In this case we don't know what the charge is, but it could make a big difference.

Indeed you are right Mikael. I have looked around the site for a mention of the connection charge but no luck. I have sent the company an e-mail asking for them to clarify the connection charge. When I get a reply I will post it here.

moonandstar,

Have you had previous experiences with this company? The only problem I see is that many such companies decrease rates to get customers and then rates would increase overnight. I have used some services like that in past. I understand there is no guarantees esp. with instances like taxes increasing and all but still if someone has used these providers then it would help.

Regards

I have not personally used this service yet. I plan to get out to the shops later today and pick up a voucher.

I am cautious though about sudden price increases especially to destinations like Pakistan.

It would be good to hear from anyone who has used this service in the past.

It would be very interesting, and also to see if the quality is any good. They are selling calls to Pakistan at a 3rd of the price that I can buy for! I suspect whatever route they are using will not last long, so it would be best to use it whilst it lasts!

Hello All,
I have used this service since 0871 top up stopped on Orange..I bought £5 credit and for that i got 100 minutes free..There is a fair connection charge of 2p and calls o India are charged at 1p per minute..The lines is clear and loud...No problem with cal quality..So for time being Chill talk is solving my problem...until our forum Hero Mikael give new topup number for orange user...

It seems Chili Talk have now updated their website which confirms that their connection charge is 10p.

http://www.chillitalk.com/terms_conditions.aspx

If people prefer connection charges to minimum call charges, I could also introduce a very cheap service possible cheaper than chili talk. If there is demand for that, please let me know!

Well we cannot have both! However what I was wondering was whether people would prefer to pay 0.9p per min with a 10p connection charge, or pay 1.6p per min with only a minimum call charge?

This is a service I'm working on to take the place of the 0871 top-upwhen someday it will probably get blocked again. It is taking longer than expected, but I hope it will be ready in the not too distant future.

I would say it would totally depend on the type of calls on makes. If I make longer duration calls, I would prefer the 1st option and if I make more calls but all of shorter duration, then the 2nd option would be better suited.

So both sides can argue their stand..............

Unless you can make both of them Happy in some way..........

Just to let people know, customers on the O2 network can now top-up for 1.66p per minute (for all destinations except Pakistan) using the premium sms top-up method on the 0871 top-up service. There is no connection charge.
