This looks an interesting service Joby, but having just taken a quick look at it, there seem to be some snags to it, and something which needs explaining.       

The first snag that I saw was the connection charges.  I put in UK to Hungary as an example to get a rate, and saw £0.011/min to landlines, and £0.097/min to mobiles.  I was thinking that the former one looked quite competitive - until I saw in small print: "A connection fee of £0.011 applies to all calls."  That would double the rate for landlines in the first minute, and put the mobile rate above others as well.       

I then notices that these were the subscription rates, and that the Pay & Go ones were a lot worse.  0.018£/min to landlines, and a whopping 0.151£/min - which are well over the going rates, to mobiles at least.       

The mystery is the currency choice - which includes "Jaxtr jax ( JAX )".       
What is this please ?

I just tried using this service to call Pakistan and registered both my mobile number and my cousin's in Pakistan. I made a phone call, had to wait for around 6-8 minutes before my call connected to my cousin. The message does appear asking me to press option 1 if I would like to call directly using cheap rates but I ignored and stayed on line without pressing any key until my cousin called on his local number. She called me again after using this service and has informed me about the charges which are very very low compare to calls made directly to UK mobiles. Now I have to investigate whether there is any charge for myself though I have free unlimited landline calls. Once I have further information I will post on this forum.

 I can understand MH's concern but what I think is this may be good for few countries especially India and Pakistan because both comes under their unlimited package. To  call with the free call you just need to register with jaxtr and you don't need whats called ''jax '' ie you don't need to pay anything. The number they provide is a UK 020 (local LAN number) and if its India they give a local LAN line number there. So if you have free minutes you may use these numbers free of cost. If you choose the other option like cheap calls as MH said it will not be very cheap.

Depends where you wanted to call meaning if you calling those countries included in jaxtr, you can make a free call if you have inclusive free landline minutes. I have tried and tested this service by calling mobile number in Pakistan. The number I was given by jaxtr was a Notingham landline number and my cousin in Pakistan was given local Islamabad' number. I called on my local number and waited about 2-3 minutes and in the mean time my cousin received a text message asking him to "call on his local number, your caller is waiting on other line". My cousin called on local number and our call got connected which costed 2 Rupees/minute to my cousin and free for me. I hope this will help.

Hi Everyone

Jaxtr is not providing free calls to Pakistan anymore. When I try to make fone call by dialling local number but my cousin either didn't receive txt messages or if he did but then when called his local number the call never got connected. Just for information only
